Traditional brush-on precision for heritage rail. Our 250ml Heritage Enamel tins are designed for enthusiasts and restorers who require absolute historical accuracy for detailed hand-painting and small-scale projects.

Spanning from the GWR and LNER eras to modern corporate liveries, this high-pigment alkyd enamel provides unbeatable coverage and a hard-wearing finish. Perfect for both fine-scale models and larger heritage transport components, this formula is engineered for a smooth, professional application by brush.

Key Features:

  • Gloss & Matt Versatility: Hand-pick your finish for nearly every colour in the range to match your specific prototype.

  • Authentic Railmatch Accuracy: Precision-matched pigments for GWR, LMS, SR, and BR liveries.

  • Durable & Hard-Wearing: Formulated for excellent adhesion on metal, plastic, diecast, resin, and wood.

  • Pro-Grade Tin Size: Supplied in a 250ml plain white tin—the ideal quantity for detailed locomotive and rolling stock work.

Technical & Thinning Advice:

  • Easy to Thin: For a finer flow, this enamel can be thinned up to 10% using our Xylene Solvent Thinners.

  • Important: DO NOT use White Spirit or Turpentine, as these will react poorly with the industrial alkyd base.

Important Heat Information:

  • Standard Enamels: Ideal for cabs, tenders, frames, and coaches. These are not high-temperature paints and should not be used on boilers.

  • Smokebox Black: Our specialist High-Heat (VHT) Matt paint is specifically designed for smokeboxes and hot surfaces on live steam models.

Surface Preparation: Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free from oils. For metal or resin, lightly sand the surface and apply a compatible primer before painting.

Stirring: Stir the paint thoroughly for at least 3 minutes using a flat stirrer. Do not shake the tin, as this can introduce air bubbles.

Application: Use a high-quality soft-bristle brush. Apply in thin, even strokes to avoid runs.

Thinning: If the paint is too thick for fine detail, thin by up to 10% using Xylene Solvent Thinners only.

Warning: DO NOT use White Spirit or Turpentine; these are incompatible and will ruin the finish.

Drying Time: Touch dry in 2–4 hours (depending on temperature). Allow 24 hours for a full industrial cure.

Note: Standard enamels are for bodywork and frames. For smokeboxes or live steam boilers, use our VHT Smokebox Black.
